As December makes its chilly, wet, and relentless march towards Christmas and New Years, The Holidays are no longer around the corner, they have arrived! And with the weather outside well, shall we say, frightful, it’s wonderful to have some delightful artwork to bring joy, seasonal or otherwise, to the hearts of Bay Area art lovers. With a dazzling, tour de force display of painterly chops, Cornelia Schulz’s current show at Paul Thiebaud Gallery offers up an assortment of remarkable intimately-scaled works that have a massive presence. Read my thoughts on the work of this legendary artist here.
Articultures is writer and artist Barbara Morris’ platform to present reviews and articles on exhibitions and events happening in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. After over 25 years of writing for a variety of other publications, I was compelled to launch this site allowing me to cover the Bay Area in greater depth, and with my own editorial control over content. In addition to providing an additional voice responding to the Bay Area scene, with occasional forays to other geographic areas, I am excited to share some of my previously published content in an easily accessible format. A complete archive of my previously published work is a more long-term goal.
With a lengthy and extensive history of viewing and writing about contemporary art since 1998, I am delighted to now be able to present my perspective on a variety of recent, current, and upcoming shows and events in this format. My interests are fairly broad, with particular interests in painting, installation art, robotics, the environment, feminism, and Andy Warhol.
To navigate the site, visit “Posts” for reviews and content specific to my blog. To access previously published work, select “Recently Published.”
I have selected a format that will allow Articultures to expand, or perhaps contract, as time and motivation dictate. I welcome your suggestions and feedback as to how I might adapt this site to better reflect and respond to the unpredictable shifts in the current of the contemporary art world.
Happy Holidays and thanks for visiting!
Barbara Morris
